Class Descriptions

Vinyasa

This is our ALL LEVELS vinyasa class. This is a physically challenging class with a dynamic and flowing sequence synchronizing breath and movement in a heated room. Practicing vinyasa yoga will help to clear the mind and strengthen and stabilize the body. This is an all levels class, however we encourage those new to yoga to attend our Vinyasa Basics Workshop or our level one classes before attending a vinyasa class.

Vinyasa yoga was developed in the West largely from the teachings of Ashtanga master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and is most often associated with American teachers Brian Kest, Baron Baptise and Shiva Rae, among others. The sequence can vary widely from one teacher to the next but consistently emphasizes strength and flexibility.

Vinyasa Level Two

This is a fun and inspiring physically challenging class with a dynamic and flowing sequence synchronizing breath and movement in a heated room. Practicing Vinyasa yoga will help to clear the mind and strengthen and stabilize the body. The sequence can vary widely from one teacher to the next but consistently emphasizes strength and flexibility. This class explores asanas with advanced variations. (Recommended for students with at least 6 months of steady practice.)

Vinyasa Level One

Learn the basic postures and transitions that will lay the foundation for your vinyasa practice. Focus is on alignment and building the core strength that will allow you to advance on to our all-levels vinyasa classes. Perfect for beginners or for those wanting to focus on alignment in a slower-paced setting.

Sivananda

Sivananda is a classical form of yoga which combines the asanas (postures) with breath awareness, meditation and relaxation. This practice is for anyone who wishes to increase strength and flexibility through their spine, muscles and bones while learning to ground and center the mind. It is suitable for any level as each practitioner is encouraged to listen to their inner wisdom and play within the practice as it is for them on any given day.

Apres Ski Vinyasa

Join us to warm up and stretch out after your day on the slopes. This is a fun, all-levels vinyasa class to energize, soothe and relax your tired body. This class will have a dynamic and flowing sequence synchronizing breath and movement in a heated room. Practicing vinyasa yoga will help to clear the mind and strengthen and stabilize the body. Of course, you don’t have to have been on the slopes to enjoy an afternoon practice! All are welcome. Rotating teachers: Sheila Dunn and Aleta Raphael-Brock.

Yin

Yin Yoga is a passive form of yoga in which the poses are held for longer periods of time in order to focus on the connective tissues of the body, creating greater flexibility in the spine, hips and legs. This practice is perfect for anyone who feels as if they may enhance their ability within their favorite sport, or gain greater comfort in their life with an increase in flexibility to the low back, pelvis, hips or hamstrings, while learning to release tension in the mind and still the thoughts. Suitable for any level of practitioner.

Lunch Time Yoga

Build strength and flexibility using movement and breath in this all-levels class. Classes vary depending on teacher and may include sun salutations, deep stretches, standing postures and relaxation. Some classes are heated to 90 degrees (indicated on schedule).

Alignment Yoga

Fine tune your practice. This class will offer specific alignment for postures as well as therapeutic techniques for strengthening and lengthening muscles for stability and range of motion. It will include a focus on stabilizing the anticipatory muscles in the core and lengthening the hamstrings and quadriceps and stabilizing and aligning the shoulders. This class is appropriate for all levels of practitioners, from those new to yoga to intermediate students wanting to gain an understanding in alignment principles. Private sessions are also available to address specific issues having to do with injuries and alignment and fine tuning.

Ananda Yoga

While toning the body and building flexibity, Ananda yoga re-progams habitual mental patterns through the use of positive affirmations specific to each pose. It raises consciousness, stills the mind and opens the heart. In a healing and non-competitive environment, this is a style that encompasses all levels and requires no prior experience of yoga.

Pre-Natal Series

Yoga is a wonderful practice for strength, flexibility and relaxation while pregnant. This class will integrate safe techniques for practicing yoga while expecting and will provide a space to connect with other mothers-to-be. Our next four-week series starts October 19. Be sure to email or call us to sign up for the series.

Therapeutic Yoga

Bend Yoga has partnered with Therapeutic Associates to bring you Therapeutic Yoga. Laura Cooper, Physical Therapist and director of Therapeutic Associates and Bend Yoga Instructor Aleta Raphael-Brock will work with you, mindfully modifying postures to best suit your healing needs. This class is meant for people who are healing from injuries and desire a smaller class setting with a focus on alignment. Limited to six participants. Please contact us if you are interested in this class.

Private Classes and Parties

Bend Yoga offers private sessions in several styles of yoga including pre-natal, therapeutic, vinyasa, Sivananda and Yin. We also offer private parties and events for bridal showers, birthday parties, family gatherings, etc. The studio is available for privates between 1 and 4PM on weekdays and during the weekends. Please contact us to schedule a private. We will work with you to find the teacher to suit your individual needs.

The private birthday yoga class planned for Jeff (my husband) at Bend Yoga was perfect!  It was a meaningful way to connect with friends in a beautiful space.  Aleta set the perfect, invigorating space in the private session.  We received individual attention and explored new stretches with class partners.  The teacher easily rolled with the group and we all got a good laugh when Jeff politely declined the option of working in a circle :)  A few of Jeff’s friends had never tried yoga before and want to do it again, it was a great way to share our love for yoga. ~ Ann Cook, BY student
